開路者教會由一群聽從神呼召的弟兄姊妹開創，他們大都來自同一個教會職青小組。在2021年秋天，大家領受呼召——因著大西雅圖地區東北邊華人福音的需要，蒙召在當地籌建一所華人教會。同工們每周都聚集，一同禁食禱告，上帝的異象也逐漸清晰。作爲對禱告的回應，六名小組成員在那段時間決志受洗。正當他們尋找聚會場地，位於華盛頓州巴薩爾市的Evergreen教會向他們敞開懷抱，因為Evergreen的同工們也一直在為華人群體的福音事工禱告。在2022年的2月6日，開路者教會的第一場主日崇拜在Evergreen教會的「Uptown Room」舉行，共有65位弟兄姊妹在現場見證。

「你們不要記念從前的事，也不要思想古時的事。看哪，我要做一件新事，如今要發現，你們豈不知道嗎？我必在曠野開道路，在沙漠開江河。」

Waymaker Church began with a team of Christ followers who answered God’s call. Most of them came from a church small group of young adults. In Fall 2021, they received calling from God — To spread the Gospel among the Chinese neighbors in the northeast of the Greater Seattle Area, they were sent to found a new church there. The leaders fast and prayed together every week and God’s vision became clearer and clearer. As an answer to their prayers, six members of the small group decided to be baptized during that period. While they were seeking a place to gather, Evergreen Church in Bothell, WA extended a warm welcome to them, because the Evergreen leaders also had been praying for evangelicalism in the Chinese community. On February 6th, 2022, Waymaker started the first Sunday worship service in the “Uptown Room” of Evergreen Church under the witness of 65 brothers and sisters.
